In-depth: Jetboat Analytics vs Mixpanel
Choose Mixpanel if…
- You want a mature self-serve reporting UI and its ecosystem: Insights, Funnels, Retention and Flows, boards, metric trees, warehouse connectors, experiments and feature flags.
- Compliance paperwork decides the purchase. Mixpanel publishes SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 / 27701 certifications, offers a HIPAA BAA on Enterprise, and lets you keep data in the US, EU, or India.
- You want a free tier you can start on today: 1M events and 10K session replays a month with unlimited seats and no sales call.
Choose Jetboat Analytics if…
- You want someone reading the data. Mixpanel's support answers questions about Mixpanel; we read your funnel and come back with what to change.
- You want error tracking with the analytics. Mixpanel shows console errors in a replay timeline; we track exceptions and link each one to the replay and the user.
- You want bad data caught at ingest. Lexicon documents your events; our schemas enforce them and quarantine what doesn't match.

What Mixpanel is good for
Mixpanel is a mature self-serve analytics tool with a reporting UI many product teams already know: Insights, Funnels, Retention and Flows, saved to boards, with metric trees, cohorts and alerts on top. Experiments and feature flags are included on Free and Growth. Warehouse connectors import from Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift and Postgres, with Mirror mode keeping updates and deletes in sync, so teams that model in the warehouse can report in Mixpanel.
Compliance is documented: SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and 27701, a HIPAA BAA on Enterprise, and data residency in the US, EU or India. The free tier is 1M events and 10K replays a month with unlimited seats and no sales call. The Agent creates and edits reports from a question, and a Python SDK for agents is in early access.
Mixpanel leaves the interpretation to you. There is no error-tracking product; console errors show in the replay timeline and that is the extent of it. Lexicon documents your events and does not enforce them. Replay is off until you set a recording rate. Event retention is two years on new projects. And Mixpanel's support answers questions about Mixpanel; nobody there is reading your funnel.
Moving off Mixpanel
We don't import Mixpanel history. Mixpanel's Data Pipelines add-on exports raw events to S3, GCS, Azure Blob, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift Spectrum and Snowflake, and it comes with a 30-day free trial, so export what you want to keep into your own storage before the two-year retention window catches up with it. Replays are kept 30 days by default and don't move.
- We add our script beside the Mixpanel SDK. Both run, and your boards keep working while ours fill in.
- Your event names come across as they are. We register them, with their properties, as schemas, so the names your team uses in Mixpanel are the names you see here. Events that fail validation are quarantined and reported.
- Identity maps from Mixpanel's
$user_idand$device_idto our user ID and anonymous ID. Simplified ID Merge stitches anonymous history to a user; ours does the same when the user signs in. - We run both for two to four weeks, reconcile the counts on the events you care about, and send you the comparison.
- You remove the Mixpanel SDK when you're satisfied, or keep it for experiments and flags.
Pricing
Mixpanel is event-based with three plans. Free is “Up to 1M events / month”, “10K session replays / month” and “Unlimited seats”; access is restricted, not billed, past 1M events. Growth “Starts at $0” with the “First 1M free up to 20M” events and “20k monthly sessions” of replay, overages billed per event (Mixpanel's example: $0.00028 per event on a 1M plan). Enterprise runs “Up to 1T events / month” with custom replay volumes and a dedicated success team; MTU-based Enterprise plans start at $20,000 per year. Event retention is two years on projects created since September 2025; replays are kept 30 days by default and 7–365 days on paid plans (Mixpanel pricing). Jetboat Analytics is one plan with everything managed, scoped to your event volume and goals on a short call (pricing). If your volume fits inside Mixpanel's free tier and you have someone to run it, Mixpanel will cost you less in cash. What you are paying us for is the team.
Frequently asked questions
Is Jetboat Analytics a Mixpanel alternative?
As a Mixpanel alternative for product analytics and session replay, yes — that is what we run, and we add error tracking, which Mixpanel does not offer as a product. It does not replace Mixpanel's experiments, feature flags, warehouse connectors, or data pipelines. If your team leans on those, Mixpanel is the better fit; some teams keep Mixpanel for experiments and use Jetboat for the analytics they want operated for them.
What does “managed” mean here?
We host and operate the whole pipeline — ingestion, storage, dashboards, replay, and error tracking — and you get a named human from onboarding onward. On top of that an operator watches your events, replays, and errors and proposes concrete product fixes; you approve them, and we can implement them inside your existing systems or hand them to your team. Mixpanel's support answers questions about Mixpanel; we run your pipeline and read the data for you.
Where does the data live, and can I self-host either one?
Neither is self-hosted. Mixpanel runs on Google Cloud with US, EU, or India residency chosen when you create a project, publishes SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 / 27701 certifications, and offers a HIPAA BAA on Enterprise. Jetboat Analytics is sold as a managed service: we host and operate the pipeline, retention is agreed at onboarding, and residency and security questions are part of the scoping call.
